Hypocrisy in Action: Aviation Unfriendly Governor Rick Scott Gets Photo Opp at Embraer Event

This article is unbelievable! Have you forgotten the embarrassed Auto Execs at the Congressional hearings? I am a CFI and a CPA in Florida. I see no hypocracy in Gov. Scott's attendance at the Melbourne ribbon cutting. He is pro business and has pledged to add 700,000 more jobs in Florida during his term. He has kept a campaign promise. His reasoning is sound in removing the very objects that so often are a lightening rod for critisism from all quarters. The fact that he is willing to use his own plane at his expense makes him a patriot and reminds me of Harry Truman. In order to live up to his campaign motto, "Let's get to work!" he needs to have the confidence of his citizens and this is a great first step. When Florida is thriving again because of the companies he will attract to come here (in part due to a fiscally thrifty government), their CEO's will buy many more corporate jets than have been eliminated in the state government, and hire crews to fly and maintain them.

Regarding the targeted elimination of acceleraled depreciation, the gentleman was right in saying that this is merely a deferral of tax since it will all be recaptured when the aircraft is sold assuming that there is no loss on sale. This is a classic demagogue tactic that has no real merit but stirs up uninformed passions.
My small flight school has (had) two C-172 leased back from an affluent pilot who obviously enjoyed the tax advantages and passed this on to the school in the form of a reduced hourly charge. He has recently decided to sell the aircraft and gave the school two weeks notice. The school is trying to find another lease-back situation and this has become much harder because of the possibility of potential owners losing the tax advantage. Three jobs are at risk...and I assure you, they are not "fat cats".
FAA ‘Safety Culture’ or Snitching Program?

This is dangerous. Students that are already timid of the radio and terse controllers will be less likely to talk on the radio when necessary to get a clarification and more likely to act rashly out of fear. There used to be a fellowship with controllers in that we were all on the same team. Now we will go from punishment in their tone of voice to actual punishment. Schools will get violations and their relationship with students will suffer. As CFIs we have great understanding of the "laws of learning". This new so-called Safety Culture is a serious setback to learning and safety.
