Are Airbags Worth the Money?

It's ok to report on a commercially available product, but this article seems a little too "advertorial", and that detracts from it's authenticity.

I differ with the first comment in substance but not style. The Middle-East and China are not hostile nations and would have more to lose if they pursued belligerence. However, selling American companies overseas takes away jobs and converts America from a producing economy to a consuming one. Wealth comes from a nation adding value to raw materials or other product and exporting more than it imports. Sadly, most American corporations seem to be blindly exporting ownership, jobs, technology and profit for short term financial gain. Teach your grandkids Chinese or Arabic , because they just might need a Visa someday to move to a place with better opportunity.

Stephen,
you're right.
I did not realize that AmSafe is the only mfg of Airbags, and that they are really pioneering the way here.
In this over-marketed day and age, it's hard to differentiate advertorial content from honest reporting.
Plz keep keeping us informed of new developments.
Flight Crews Say Cell Phones Cause Interference

@socal: A cellphone signal one meter away from an aircrafts data conduit is much more disruptive than a 10K watt transmitter hundreds of metres below and outside the metal-skinned (shielded) aircraft.
As planes migrate to Fly-by-Wire control systems, data corruption becomes a bigger threat, and we don't want to lose hundreds of lives to prove this.
Erring on the side of safety is what make air-travel as safe as it is today, and I willingly accept the burden of hundreds of "useless" regulations, because at the end of the day, we have a near-zero accident rate industry.
Long live the FAA (in spite of how much I cuss them)!

Our aviation excellence is a product of the American way of life. We devote vast personal, education, financial, etc resources to develop companies like Cirrus.
If I came up with a revolutionary clean-sheet design, I know banks, my local airport, town, state and federal agencies would offer me assistance in one way or another. It would not be easy, but possible to get lots of help.
Once my company is established, selling it off to the highest foreign bidder would give them a huge advantage and technological leap that they would have not been able to achieve otherwise, paid for by Americans.
Cirrus say that the MN jobs will remain, but honestly, that's a temporary claim often touted while a foreign buyer waits to pull the plug.
Would the Chinese rather pay $20-30/hr for an American worker, or a quarter of that or less, for a Chinese one?
