My Cousin John Schweller took me for my first airplane ride. In today's world it would have been a Young Eagles mission. We had a family gathering at Uncle Don's and Aunt Rene's house in Clayton and John took a car full of cousins to Day-Hio airport and flew a Cub. Today I am a 3,000 hour pilot and have been for 45 (54 if you start with flying with John) years. BTW Art Hogan did my Private Pilot check ride December 22, 1966. It took me many years to realize that the now familiar feeling I felt in that Cub with the doors open, is the feeling of "home". I don't really fly to go anywhere, I fly to be home. I was 6 - 8 years old and John was about 18 years old. Uncle Orville and John built Schweller Tool & Die and Plasco in tough economic times by having the advantage of flying to Chicago and Detroit on a moments notice to bid jobs. They are a testament to the value of Business Aviation and General Aviation, especially in tough economic times. Many people have died teaching me about safety. Art Hogan's son and my friend who was my age died in a Bonanza July 1, 1967 with the fuel selector on "Aux". The fuel selector on John's Bonanza was on "Aux". In both cases there were lots of other contributing factors. But the lesson is attention to detail which particularly in stressful situations means using a check list. I really didn't know John very well and would like to "talk" with you. Please contact me at Deafhawk_2000@yahoo.com.

"the system is compliant with future navigation (FANS 1A) and allows for datalink communication with the controller via satellite. I sent a test message to a center controller and received a reply in return, complete with a pop-up message on the PFD and an audio alert that an ATC message had arrived. This is how many en route clearances will be handled in the future, with HF radio being relegated (thankfully) to backup duties."
I teach people who are Deaf to fly. This is a solution! I was so excited to see that it was demonstrated and worked, "received a reply in return, complete with a pop-up message on the PFD". Then I realized that they were in Brazil. It is my understanding that the few, very few, areas where datalink worked in the US have been shut down. It isn't mentioned anywhere I can find in ADS-B. Who is the third world country?
