I think you make a good argument. Though I do believe you have more currency of something which differentiates our attitudes towards this, compromise. Im a college student with little money to spend on flying. I could rent from a local flight school or club, but I simply know too many people have taken risk in aviation and have payed the price. And thats what I feel like Im doing when I step into these aircraft.
That being said, I believe GA aircraft companies will produce an aircraft that is economical again. I say again because Mooney had the perfect formula for it time with the 201, but that was before $5/gallon of 100LL. Maybe if Mooney's aim was to keep flying cheap, rather than fast, they would be making aircraft today. The Pipistrel Panthera is promising, time will tell.
