Free In-Cockpit iPad Weather: We Fly Stratus

Robert I agree this is a great solution at a reasonable price on the surface However here's the issues I have with it; first and foremost its a proprietary based system that is it will only work with ForeFlight software.
Now this may not seem an issue if you're a current ForeFlight user but still should you ever want to move to another software flight navigation/planning application this hardware will not be supported. This is what is called a "LOCK-IN" and essentially killed off many stubborn and greedy computer companies who locked in buyers with their "CLOSED" systems approach.
It troubles me to see this type of approach for a GA solution when we should be looking at not only cost effective solutions but "open" ones which provide flexibility and investment protection for the consumer not the manufacture. The manufacture should always be driven to improve and provide more for less in order to keep and grow their customer base.
Also consider as well you can ONLY buy this from Sporty! This is just another LOCK IN e.g. if you want it you need to buy it from me at my price! There are no options for the consumer and since its a closed system is no way other software vendors can integrate their software with it. For instance I asked Wing-X if they would offer it they said sorry the interface is a closed one.
So while you give this a strong "BUY" I'd ask you to do more research and give more consideration as to the "whole picture" as a strong buy for the pilot consumer. For me I will not consider anything closed ever! I'll do without before I'm forced into a solution where I'm essentially held hostage as to what the manufacture(s) will provide for support and functionality. And I personally hate having only one choice to purchase.

Pilot Arrested, Charged for Doing Nothing

I never, never would have settled! This is only going to happen an again and again! Siting back and letting this injustice go away by agreeing not to sue is ridiculous. They (the Sheriffs Dept) were wrong in every way this is why they asked for the agreement this pilot should have taken his day in court! Sorry I just don't get his attitude...OK he's a nice guy but there are times to make a statement and this was one on of those times!
D-JET Demise: What Its Bad News Means to Cirrus Jet

Waste of time talking what it means to Cirrus until they actually have a certified plane to sell. After that we can reflect on what impact it may have had or not. Sorry but all this speculation is just a waste of time....
