FAA ‘Safety Culture’ or Snitching Program?

I'm ex-atc and a current comm pilot and am appalled by this change. I can't believe Natca let this go through (assuming they have that ability, I don't know). First off, what happens when the controller goes to enter this info and something else goes on in the mean time. In ATC I was happy to have 'safe' teaching moments from the twr to students or other pilots. Controllers already have the ability to burn a dangerous pilot. I think it's the guys in the trenches (atc) that know best which mistakes to report. I know as a controller, I wouldn't want pilots to 'have' to report one of my screw ups. Again, they already have the ability to with one phone call. Absolutely horrible decision by the FAA. I certainly don't remember a public disclosure period for comments, anyone else?

I would imagine many trawl nets have snagged on the wreckage after all these years. It'll be interesting to see how intact it is.

Pilot's family could counter-sue I would think. Sucks all around.

I commented yesterday here and now it's gone. This was NOT a pilot mistaking a road for a runway. Reports from other pilots heard this pilot report engine trouble.

Another point I haven't seen listed here, is the much lower cost (hourly and annually) of operation for a new LSA vs. a 20-30 yr old 152. First off you get some warranty on the first few yrs of a new LSA (varies of course by mfg) It's cheaper to install a brand new Dynon screen than replace 2 gyros in an old bird. The fuel burn with the new Mogas engines vs a big 4 or 6 cyl 100 LL is significant, as is the $ saved using Mogas. An annual on a new-ish LSA is way less than an old 152, Cherokee etc. In addition much of the basic maintenance can be done by the owner or licensed pilot that would otherwise have to be done by an expensive AP. Take a couple week course and you can do even more than basic maintenance. Just my 2 cents..
