iPad Mini Killer for Less Than Half the Price

I looked long and hard at the ipad.
I chose the Nexus 7 32 gb.
I love it. It runs not only the Garmin app but many more very good aviation apps. I can do all my flight planning using one of a few different apps. It runs Naviator an app just about as good as anything out there. The Garmin app, NOAA weather, FltPlan you name it. Most of the apps have free versions and if they do charge they are usually 1/2 the cost of a similar iPad app!
I can fly for a month with the money I saved over the iPad.
At half the cost, includes all the bells and whistles I need, sharp display and a better "feel" and size and what's not to love.
Back up is easy, Google backs everything up to a cloud automatically.
I don't have a need for a phone version, I have a smartphone for that, so I saved the $50 there as well.
For those app developers that only make apps for the Apple product, you are missing the boat.
Should Pilots Fear the Police?

In todays social and political climate post 9/11 the police are king. It is 1984 in spades.
Police are not ones to be trusted, sad to say. They are sworn to uphold the law, but rather than follow the law they intemperate it to suit their own purposes. On a daily basis persons are arrested only to have the charges dismissed later from there not being an actual crime committed.
One only has to look at the debate over gun control going on now. Forget the actual debate. Look at what the dozens of Sheriffs have called news briefings to say. That THEY WILL DETERMINE THE CONSTITUTIONALITY OF ANY STATE OR FEDERAL LAW AND WHETHER TO ENFORCE IT. So basically even if Congress passes a law, they will take it on themselves to ignore it.
So what does this have to do with aviation?
Simple, law enforcement is taking the law into their own hands.
Like the glider incident, they made up a law, then twisted another law to suit their wants and threw the pilot into jail. Then they only released him when he promised not to file suit!
Where was the judiciary in all this?
In South Carolina, with the exception of a few specific reasons a person can not be arrested for a misdemeanor not committed in the presence of the law enforcement officer. Hence the pilot can and should file suit against the Sheriff for unlawful arrest!
Just wait until the skies are filled with UAV's if you think it is bad now.

Watch the weather also!
We tried to make it down this week but IFR kept us away, Tried today too, Saturday, but 60% chance of showers in the Lakeland area, we cancelled.
One plane after another also stopped at my home airport to get fuel and fret about the weather.
Three days of trying to get down there.
But I agree with some of the other commenter s, many are just not spending the money. Particularly the small dollar blue collar folks. Just have to watch the flow of money. Until unemployment stabilizes, credit is once again available and Congress stops blowing one gloom and doom scenerio after the other out the doors of the Capitol building, it won't improve.
