PiperJet Dead?
from jmk1950

I have wished for a long time and wondered if it would be possible to build the Twin Commanche again. I read that the building 'jigs' were all ruined and rusted from the hurricane Agnes in 1972. With the Rolls-Royce 450 shp turbine a lot of the 'older' twins could be re-powered and built again.
The Piper Jet looks good, but it needs a potty somewhere. But Dreaming and Doing are two different things.

Meigs Field Redevelopment on Hold Years After Airport Closure

Meigs Field Redevelopment:
What a shame to lose this airport. Possibly redevelopment could be done. Possibly a Coast Guard Station could be put it here with a helicopter rescue squad. Also a helicopter service center.
Possibly UPS and FEDEX could work a down town Chicago sort center and fly packages in and out with Cessna Caravans or a small 737. Possibly a 'heavy lift' blimp, dirigible center could be placed here. Possibly a light industry could be placed here. Something to do with aviation. Possibly United-Continental could put in a training facility and train personnel before placing them at Ohare or Midway. Maybe Flight Safety could put in a flight training center. The parks plan could also continue with flowers and plants in the medians and besides the taxi ways. The garden clubs of Chicago could participate with these.

State Department Joins Earhart Search

Stuff I have read, seen, and heard on TV. 1. Upon landing in New Guinea, about 300 feet of HF trailing antenna was torn off the airplane, because the antenna was not reeled in before landing. This HF radio navigation antenna was not replaced, and the flight proceeded to Howland Island without the navigaiton instrument. 2. Fred Noonan advised Amelia Earhart that it would be better to have this instrument aboard, because of the distance they were flying and the accuracy that would be needed. Also fuel was critical at this distance. 3. Some Navy personnel and witnesses said there was a plane that looked like a Lockheed Electra on a island that the Japanese had occupied during WW II. There were some witnesses that stated that Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan were beheaded by the Japanes. 4. Some human bones and airplane parts from a Lockheed Electra have been found on some island. I wonder what really became of the airplane, the flight and Amelia Earhart and Fred Noonan.
A History of Collier Trophy Fails

I have read flying since 1956 -
Observation on some of the ideas.
#2 Diesel engine - Packard then, Germany's war diesels, Diesels on Jet A now.
#3 Autogyro - Pitcarin then, James Bond 1970's, small autogyros now. Short take off run.
#4 Operation Linebacker II. The sorrow of the Vietnam War - All wars. 68,000 dead men.
My neighbor down the street and good man died of agent orange cancer. Terrible.
A guy, and good person I work for, lost 6 of his platoon in a fire fight
and lived to tell about it.
My Dad - Old Navy doctor, WWII. Cussing in disgust, suggested pulling up a Trident Nuclear Submarine, and coming down the Ho Chi Min trail, with some small tactical nuclear
war heads, that would put in a buffer zone, that the north would not cross.
30 years latter I rented to college boys (here in US) from Hanio. Their daddy's were bankers in Hanio, all cash, and they had more money than I did.
#5 Ducted turboprops. A savings of 10, 20, 30% fuel usage. Build 4 to 10 of them and see how
fuel efficient then can get. Might make some more noise, but could be quieted.
