U.S. F/A-18C Crashes in England

Marine corps pilot dies in tragic crash.

An F/A-18C fighter jet based at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar outside San Diego crashed in a farm field near the Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, yesterday. The airplane was part of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 232 and was on its way back to California from a mission in Bahrain, MCAS Miramar reported.

The cause of the crash is unknown at this time. The F/A-18C pilot who died in the crash was traveling together with five squadron mates, which all diverted safely to RAF Lossiemouth.

The BBC News reported that the pilot attempted to eject from the airplane. From these early reports it appears that nobody on the ground was hurt.
