One Dead in San Luis Obispo Crash

Cessna Skymaster crashes into hazmat building.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating a crash in San Luis Obispo, California, on Monday afternoon in which the pilot, whose name has not been released, was killed.

Local news outlets reported that the airplane was a twin-engine Cessna 337 Skymaster. The pilot reportedly made a mayday call to the tower controllers just after taking off from the San Luis Obispo Regional Airport (KSBP).

The airplane subsequently crashed into a FedEx truck and the Promega Biosciences building approximately 1.5 miles from the departing end of Runway 29. While the FedEx truck was partially burned and the airplane was completely destroyed in the post-crash fire, nobody on the ground was hurt.

Due to potential leaks of hazardous materials, firefighters evacuated the building. No leaks were found.
