Air Canada A320 Crashes Short of Runway

25 injured in hard landing at Halifax.

An Air Canada Airbus A320 touched down about 1,100 feet short of the runway at Halifax International Airport while attempting to land in heavy snow early Sunday, injuring 25 passengers and crew when the jetliner’s landing gear tore off.

Photos of the crash scene show the wrecked airliner with its nose cone missing and engines heavily damaged. The jet reportedly struck an antenna and severed a powerline before coming to a stop on its belly at around midnight local time.

The flight had been en route from Toronto with 133 passengers and crew when the accident occurred. The pilots were among those taken to the hospital. All but one of the injured were released by Sunday afternoon, the airline said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
