Sun ‘n Fun: Blue Angels to Return for 2014 Show

Blue Angels performances confirmed for 2014.

After missing last year’s show because of the federal government sequestration, the Navy Blue Angels will be back to tear up the skies at the 40th annual Sun ‘n Fun Fly-In & Expo next spring at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in Lakeland, Florida.

“After a year of sequestration and no military participation at airshows, Sun ‘n Fun is honored to host the first appearance of the Blue Angels in the southeast in 2014,” said Sun ‘n Fun president and CEO John “Lites” Leenhouts. “It is exciting for us to offer our guests the stellar precision that represents the piloting skills of all naval aviators.”

The Blue Angels performance at Sun ‘n Fun, scheduled for April 1-6, will begin with a 10-minute flight by “Fat Albert,” the Navy C-130 that starts each show by exhibiting its maximum performance capabilities. That warmup act will be followed by the precision aerobatics routine of the United States Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, culminating with the Blue Angels’ famed six-jet “Delta Formation.”

Organizers say they expect to see attendance for the 2014 show jump thanks to the return of the Blues.
