CAF WWII Air Expo Comes to Dallas

Inaugural show at CAF headquarters promises a long list of impressive warbirds.

The Commemorative Air Force is putting on the inaugural CAF World War II Air Expo with an impressive lineup of World War II airplanes October 3 to 5 at its new headquarters at the Dallas Executive Airport in Texas. In addition to the static display of airplanes, the non-profit organization will provide rides in several warbirds and is putting on an educational event for students.

Airplanes scheduled to be on site include Fifi, currently the only airworthy B-29 Superfortress in the world though another one named Doc may fly soon, the Tuskegee Airmen squadron of North American P-51 Mustangs, SB2C Helldiver, B-24 Liberator, B-17 Flying Fortress, A-26 Invader and several others. Rides in all of these historical airplanes and others will be available for a cost.

In addition to the stellar lineup of airplanes, a preliminary event on October 2 will include educational programs targeted to local students, including the CAF’s Rise Above exhibit, which aims to inspire students by telling the story of several U.S. Army Air Corps pilots in World War II. WWII veterans will be available to talk directly to the students about their experiences in the war. The exhibit also includes a 160-degree panoramic theatre that shows an inspirational film, Rise Above.

The CAF fleet includes more than 160 warbirds at several locations around the country. The airplanes are restored maintained by a dedicated force of volunteers.
