Buzz Builds for Inaugural Flying Aviation Expo

Thousands expected for event in Palm Springs.

Excitement is building for this weekend’s Flying Aviation Expo in Palm Springs, California, as thousands of pilots and aviation enthusiasts make plans to descend on the Coachella Valley for the show October 31 to November 2.

There will be plenty to do and see at Expo 2014. The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, with the highly anticipated Parade of Planes through the streets of Palm Springs. Led by Flying Editor-in-Chief Robert Goyer taxiing his Cirrus SR22 from Palm Springs International Airport to the Palm Springs Convention Center, more than 80 airplanes are expected to participate in the one-of-a-kind spectacle.

Dozens of how-to workshops and seminars will keep the emphasis firmly on aviation for the three-day event, while the Expo will also feature a heavy lifestyle component including a poolside wine tasting at 7 p.m. on Saturday night at the Hilton Palm Springs, exotic cars and displays of high-end jewelry and fashion. There will also be a happy hour with Amelia Rose Earhart at the Renaissance Palm Springs and a Halloween party on Friday night at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

More than 130 exhibitors will pack the convention center, with dozens more displays and aircraft to see under the sunny skies outside. And of course, Saturday morning’s keynote address by former SR-71 Blackbird pilot Brian Shul will easily be worth the price of admission.
