AOPA Indy Regional: A Successful Second Event

Grassroots gathering attracted pilots and pols.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association is two for two, following the successful completion of its second regional fly-in gathering, this one in Indianapolis. The event attracted more than 2,000 attendees, there were more than 500 airplanes that flew in to Indy Regional and Indy Metro, and more than 160 volunteers helped out with the event.

AOPA President and CEO Mark Baker welcomed U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly and Congressmen Larry Buchson and Todd Rokita, as well as State Senator Brandt Hershman. Baker noted that Congressman Rokita, who is a pilot and an AOPA member, flew his own airplane in with his son.

As with the case of AOPA’s first regional gathering in San Marcos, Texas, this past April, the Indy Regional hosted a number of well-attended educational seminars, including ones on flying with iPads, unusual attitude recovery, owner-performed maintenance, flying clubs and radio communications. The next regional gathering is slated for Plymouth, Massachusetts, on July 12.
