Be warned that the service can be inconsistent and a bit slow while the food sometime tastes a bit institutional. The Island She Krab Soup ($3.95/$4.95) was watered down and tasted weak one day and on subsequent visits was so creamy and flavorful that it rivaled the best French bisques and chowders. The Blackened Mahi Mahi entrée ($23.95) was moist, tender and flakey on one visit, bland and dry on another.
Even with a few misses, the Island Fish Company is the “go to” place in Marathon. Head to the deck and kick back with a bucket of Florida Indian River Steamers ($10.95), a Gulf Oyster Po Boy ($10.95) or Crispy Breaded Lobster Sandwich ($13.95) and a slice of the heavenly cinnamon sugar coated battered and deep fried Key Lime Pie ($5.50). Make sure you aren’t in a rush. Simply enjoy the sunset and know that everyone on the mainland would love to switch places.
