The Airport Steakhouse wins when the diner selects portions from what the Meat Buyers Guide calls a #107 Beef Rib Roast. This sub-primal is home to the Prime Rib (12oz. $16.99 & 16oz. $19.99) and the 24-ounce bone-in Cowboy Ribeye ($24.99). When you crave a piece of beef, you want something charred, juicy, moist, on-the-bone and in big quantities. Both entrees (From the Pit Crew section) showcased what American decadence is all about. Where traditional Asian based cuisines use meat as a flavoring, the chop house showcases the flash.
With good reason, the Prime Ribeye (prime is the grade of meat not a specific cut) sells out fast. In a word, delicious. The medium rare pound of flesh was perfectly roasted, melted in your mouth and coated the taste buds. This hunk of burning love will stand up to all comers. If you arrive too late to for the Prime rib, order the large Cowboy Ribeye “chop of beef”. It’s a carnivore’s nirvana. Buttery, smoky, mouth coating and rich describes this ginormous hunk of cow on a bone. The sirloin may be the cut of kings but true meat lovers stick with the ribeye. This incarnation lives up to the hype.
I craved a choice of various side dishes to enhance and round out my dining experience. Perhaps a velvety mac n’ cheese, some puffy Yorkshire pudding or creamed spinach. I yearned for a truly flavorful “tastes like beef” experience. How about offering a “butcher-cut” such as a hanger steak, flank or hanging tenderloin? All that being said, the Airport Steakhouse still ranks as a stop on any aviators $100 hamburger list. Dfw.com restaurant reviewer Christopher Kelly said it best, “[eating] steak was a bit like sex, which is to say, even when it's not great, it's still a terrific way to kill 10 minutes.”
