While that amount may seem like a drop in the bucket in terms of what's needed to develop a new aircraft, McGinnis and his team say they aren't too concerned about that just yet and are thrilled to have the funds to continue the project in the short-term.

Ive been waiting all my adult life for the cost of aircraft to come within reach of the average person. It seems to me that if one wanted to sell more aircraft... they would put it within reach. It really is quite rediculous that the cost of an aircraft has not started to approach that of an upper end automobile. Iam sure there are those that are quite content in keeping flying a more exclusive hobby... only to be enjoyed by the more affluent. Shame.
Well, they put the price at 10% of a small jet, so it will cost about 400k~500K... Not exactly the same of an upper end automobile - but about the same of other, more conventional aircraft like Cirrus or Cessna. It's cool indeed, but the price do not have any magic included.
I am not rich and I barely have enough money to even take lessons, however I am perfectly fine with the price of flying being what it is... it just means I will just work that much harder, and save up enough money so that one day I can buy a plane. Perhaps the high costs even serve a good purpose to keep dunces out of the sky? (Quite likely!) Moreover, current prices are based on real life costs. I am quite certain that airplane manufacturers understand that lower prices mean more sales, and that they are doing their very best to achieve this.
I am a Student Pilot, although I cannot afford a personal aircraft (would really love to buy a Cirrus SR22T). I think if you started seeing lower prices and more main stream buyers you would have to question the quality. The cost of building an aircraft may be less than what it was 10-20 years ago, but applying for certification and all the other regulations behind selling an aircraft in any country probably costs the manufacturer a ton of money. I'd rather things stayed 'Status Quo' and keep the quality and the reliable, trustworthy manufacturers that are in the game today, right where they are.
Also, I wouldn't want a ton of pilots filling the skies with their own personal aircraft. Once cars became affordable for everyone, look what happened 80 years ago...pow! traffic and morons everywhere! lol.
