I enjoy reading what others are doing with new items the market provides. The cost is the first thing I look at. Till I see the value of the expense for increased safety, I'm not willing to spend more money. Everything I do in the cockpit is done on paper, but the new products are looking more and more attractive. The idea of looking for charts of an alternate airport in the iPad, instead of a book, is a plus. I wonder if the updates are done on-line to eliminate the requirement of waiting for the mail to deliver the updated pages.
The radar function means greater safety, to allow not just visualizing weather information, but to be able to see the image on a screen is a great asset to the pilot. No mention was made on how to attatch the iPad to the yoke as would be the case with charts, but I know someone will produce something for the purpose. Bruce Cortez
All of these ipad apps are great - for you lucky folks in the contiguous 48 and in some parts of eastern Canada. Unfortunately no-one has yet been able to provide similar functionality in the rest of Canada.
I live in Southern Alberta, so I get the north end of the US weather radars, but I can't buy Canadian sectionals or even decent topo maps to run on an aviation Ipad.
If anyone knows any better, would love to hear from them
Ipad and Ipad II does not have GPS, and the aviation software is dependent on the internet, what Pilot here gets internet or even cell up above 2500? None! Unless you are rich enough to have SAT service. So Ijunk is not a good option.
