The utilitarian GippsAero GA8 Airvan is a big airplane designed light, so it can carry a big payload. As with any airplane, the struggle for the Airvan’s designers was to keep it as light as possible, maximizing useful load, while making it as beefy as possible, to maximize reliability. Some complain that aesthetics take a back seat in that equation, and they’re probably right; but there are numerous notable workhorses with long and successful production lives despite their boxy looks.
