Aspen’s compact PFDs are attracting new customers with low cost, easy installation and numerous new features. The Aspen system shown at left is installed in a Cessna 182, one of hundreds of airplanes in which the system is approved. Despite its small size, the Aspen PFD displays a wealth of useful information. The addition of synthetic vision adds to the utility without being cluttered. Here the PFD is annunciating the autopilot’s selection of the straight-and-level mode. Aspen’s Evolution Flight Display integrates with Avidyne’s DFC90 digital auto-pilot, so the pilot can preselect altitude and indicated airspeed on the PFD. The PFD displays the autopilot modes, allowing the pilot to constantly monitor its status. **The Avidyne DFC90, which integrates beautifully with the Aspen PFD, is a full-feature digital autopilot with envelope protection, including one-button straight-and-level airplane recovery. ** Aspen’s Connected Panel lets you use an iPad as an input device. Here ForeFlight Mobile is linked to the Garmin navigator in Aspen’s Cirrus SR22.
