The old show-biz phrase “Break a leg” isn’t so funny for New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman. The 45-year-old fractured his right leg and dislocated his ankle on Monday on a tandem parachute jump with the U.S. Army Golden Knights display team. The accident happened on Cashman’s second jump of the day, in support of a fundraiser for the Wounded Warrior Project, and required surgery. The event took place at Homestead Air Reserve Base near Miami.
Cashman was a good sport about the accident, and said he remains in good spirits during his recovery. “The Golden Knights are first class,” he said. “While I certainly didn’t intend to raise awareness in exactly this fashion, I’m extremely happy that the Wounded Warriors Project is getting the well-deserved additional attention.”
The Wounded Warriors Project provides programs and services to severely wounded service members and helps them transition to civilian life.
