Video: Skydivers Aim for Wingsuit Formation Record

Beautiful wingsuit formation flight captured.

A group of skydivers from Skydive Perris in Perris, California, east of the Los Angeles metro area, is practicing hard for an attempt to break the record for the most wingsuit divers flying in formation. Dozens of flying-squirrel-like people will jump out of several airplanes, spread their wings and legs, and fly toward each other to form up in patterns before breaking apart and pulling their parachutes.

In order to break the record, more than 42 people would have to form up evenly spaced at a predetermined distance from each other. In June of this year, 51 wingsuit skydivers attempted the feat in Moorsele, Belgium, with 42 successfully joining in the formation. The flight has been recognized as the largest wingsuit formation in the world by the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) under the parachuting category.

While the record set in Belgium is still under review by the FAI, the flight was a beautiful sight to see. Check it out for yourself in this spectacular video.
