As announced on Tuesday, NASA has awarded a $1.4 million curriculum development grant to the Central Florida Aerospace Academy, a branch of the public school system in Lakeland, Florida. The career academy operates in conjunction with the business entity that operates the annual Sun 'n Fun fly-in at Lakeland Linder Regional Airport and is located on the airport grounds. Opened last August, the career academy now has 67 ninth grade students and will add a new class every year until reaching its four-year full enrollment of 300 to 400 students. The NASA grant is earmarked for developing middle school curriculum to stimulate interest in aeronautics.
