Piper had planned to make an announcement at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, today. Piper did not reveal any details of the planned announcement before hand, but the fact that the announcement will be made at the fourth annual U.S. Sport Aviation Expo has ignited all manner of speculation that Piper will enter the Light Sport Aircraft market in some fashion. Certainly the sales success of Cessna's 162 SkyCatcher hasn't gone unnoticed at Piper headquarters, and Piper has been very clear that it plans to rebuild its branded training business, so it wouldn't surprise anyone if Piper announces some sort of LSA trainer aircraft at the Expo.
