FAA Certifies Diesel Auto Engine Conversion
It’s the first time, to our knowledge, that the FAA has ever done it, but the agency gave the thumbs-up to Thielert’s little diesel auto conversion, while adding some very unusual limitations to the approval.

Ibis Ae270 Renamed Spirit
Ibis Aerospace has over 75 orders already for its new Pratt&Whitney PT-6-powered Ae270 single engine turboprop which is being manufactured at its headquarters outside Prague, Czech Republic. They plan to build five airplanes this year with the goal of completing 30 a year.

Cessna Citation XLS
Cessna's latest Citation, the XLS, is the updated version of its Excel. It has new Pratt& Whitney PW545B engines, which provide 3,991 pounds of thrust apiece, an increase of 4.9 percent over the Excel. It also comes with the Honeywell Primus Epic 1000 Control Display System (CDS) which features three LCDs.

The Coming Digital Radio Mandate
The FAA has begun flight testing a new digital communications system that it calls Nexcom, for “next-generation communications.” The modernized system will eventually require that the entire U.S. GA fleet, from Airbuses to Zlins, be equipped with new digital radios.
