Build A Plane is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity that aims to promote aviation by allowing young people to help rebuild existing aircraft. The organization solicits donations of aircraft and then regifts them to schools across the country for students to build or refurbish real airplanes. Build A Plane operates in formal partnership with the FAA, and by year end, more than 100 projects will be in progress across the United States. The organization's advisory board includes Cessna Chairman, President and CEO Jack Pelton; National Business Aviation Association President and CEO Ed Bolen; General Aviation Manufacturers Association President and CEO Peter Bunce; and Scaled Composites Founder Burt Rutan. Build A Plane is working with the Department of Energy on a project to challenge students to develop greener, more efficient aircraft.
