The General Aviation Manufacturers Association and Build A Plane are gearing up for the third installment of their Aviation Design Challenge, in which high schools will put their aviation and aerospace knowledge to the test and compete for the big prize. The Challenge aims to promote science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education.
The first 100 teachers who apply will receive “Fly to Learn” curriculum provided by GAMA, as well as five complimentary copies of airplane design and simulation software powered by X-Plane. Using the lessons, they will apply what they’ve learned to modify and fly their own virtual airplane in a fly-off to win a prize to be announced at a later date.
This past June, the winning students of the 2014 Aviation Design Challenge received a two-week trip to help build a Glasair Sportsman through the company’s “Two Weeks to Taxi” program.
