Flying received a humble message from flight instructor Scott Taylor, grandson of C.G. Taylor. A self-taught engineer from Nottingham, England, C.G. Taylor designed the original ‘Cub,’ (an E-2) and was William Piper’s early partner. But he and Piper parted ways early on, and Taylor later moved to Alliance, Ohio, and built his own side-by-side lightplane, the Taylorcraft BC12. Scott Taylor wrote to let us know that his 24-year-old son Daniel Taylor (C.G.’s great grandson) made his first solo flight on July 14 at Andy Barnhart Memorial Airport, New Carlisle, Ohio — in his dad’s 1946 BC12D. Scott wrote, “I’m very proud of him and was wondering if there is a way to get this into Flying.” I hope this counts.
