Cessna Earns Certification for Higher-Power Grand Caravan EX

New Caravan will allow one special new ability.

Cessna has earned FAA approval for its Grand Caravan EX.

The new model is outfitted with the Pratt & Whitney PT6A-140, which puts out 867 shp, a nearly 40 percent improvement in power and a roughly 20 percent improvement in its already good climb performance. Certain operators are excited about this fact, as the EX will be faster and stronger than any previous production Caravan. The extra power will give it one special application that is a first for a Grand Caravan, too.

The EX will be the first Grand Caravan to be float worthy. Wipline has already created a pair of floats for the new model. The extra power will allow the Caravan the kind of performance reserve necessary for the big floats the airplane needs, and the additional climb performance will serve it well going out of cozy lakes and bays.
