The FAA has granted technical service order (TSO) approval to Avidyne for its new MLX770 Datalink Satellite weather transceiver. The approval clears Avidyne to begin deliveries of the unit, which allows operators of Avidyne-equipped aircraft to access the company's Network Operations Center for WSI weather updates around the world. Certified to TSO C159 for "avionics supporting next generation satellite systems," the MLX770 receives signals from the 66-satellite Iridium global satellite network, enabling WSI weather access around the world, including Europe, Australia and Latin America. The MLX770 also enables two-way text messaging to other airborne multifunction displays and compatible ground-based mobile phones and personal computers via e-mail.
