CAN Charity Event Bucks Industry Downsizing Trend

By Mark Phelps
10/29/2009

While NBAA exhibitors were downsizing and fewer attendees were traveling to the show, the spirit of giving was not sacrificed on the altar of frugality. The Corporate Angel Network (CAN) combined with NBAA this year to hold a Charity Benefit, including a combination live and online auction. Auction items donated by NBAA members included a round of golf with Cessna Chairman, CEO and President Jack Pelton (and a ride in his vintage Cessna 195 taildragger), flight time in members' aircraft, and even a ride in Hawker Beechcraft's T6 "Texan II" military trainer turboprop. All told, the benefit raised $168,000 for CAN, which arranges rides on corporate aircraft for cancer patients traveling to and from treatment centers. CAN is based at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York.
