Mooney Flies First Ovation Ultra

Like the Acclaim Ultra introduced earlier this year, the new Ovation Ultra incorporates a composite cabin shell, pilot-side door and lots of interior upgrades.

Look for two new Mooney models to make their debut appearances at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh this summer after the Kerrville, Texas-based manufacturer flew the first Ovation Ultra, a version of the original Ultra that will roll out of the factory with an array of upgrades.

Mooney chief test pilot Mike Miles flew the new model for about an hour from Kerrville on June 4, describing the handling as “excellent.”

The Ovation Ultra joins the Acclaim Ultra in the revamped Mooney lineup, both of which incorporate the slightly wider composite cabin shells (versus the all-metal design of their predecessors) as well as pilot-side doors, something Mooney fans have long been asking for.

Both airplanes are also receiving upgraded interiors, including dual-tone leather seats and center-pedestal-mounted keyboard for interfacing with the standard Garmin G1000 avionics.

Mooney will display the Ovation Ultra and Acclaim Ultra at Oshkosh with their full production interiors and new available paint schemes.
