Jobs In Aviation Series: Hartzell Propeller’s Joe Brown

As Hartzell celebrates its 100th anniversary at AirVenture, the company's president offers insight to job seekers.

This year’s EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, is a little extra special for Hartzell Propeller, as the company is celebrating its 100th birthday. With that kind of success and longevity, company president Joe Brown has a great idea of what kind of jobs and fields are important to his industry, and especially ensuring that his company will be around to celebrate its 200th birthday.

“We’re hiring in composite engineering, mechanical engineering, machining, composite fabrication – all types of jobs,” Brown told McDermott & Bull’s Rod McDermott for the latest installment of our Jobs in Aviation series. And just as the other industry insiders have explained, experience in aviation isn’t necessarily a key prerequisite for a career at Hartzell. Brown recalls a bank teller that his company hired, and she’s now the running Hartzell’s shipping and exporting center.

“We’re used to teaching you the specialty,” Brown offered potential candidates. “What we need you to bring is good personal skills.”

For more of Brown’s insight, watch his interview above, and for more on Hartzell’s career opportunities, visit the company’s website.
