The Techtest Limited 406 ELT is the only triple-frequency emergency location transmitter on the market with full two-way speech capability. So, if an airplane or boat crew is performing a search and rescue but is still a ways off, a pilot can now talk to them directly using the ELT and give his precise location. The transmitter can pinpoint a user's location within two square miles worldwide using the latest technology of 406.025 (COSPAS/SARSAT) MHz. The 406 ELT has voice capability that can be transmitted on different channels: 121.5 (civil); 243 (military); and 406 MHz. Since it takes more power to transmit voice signals than simple distress signals, an optional battery pack that mounts right on the unit is available. The ELT beacon can last 48 hours at zero degrees Celsius, longer in warmer weather. The transmitter weighs just over one pound, is waterproof to over 10 meters and is FAA, JAA and CAA approved. The unit is priced at $2,975, plus $238 for the optional battery pack. To purchase, call 800/838-3012 or visit www.winslowliferaft.com.
