Avionics Innovations has introduced a panel-mounted digital audio player, the DMP-100, for aircraft from piston singles to bizjets. The unit plays MP3 files from a removable CompactFlash card that the aircraft operator records using widely available personal computer software-ask your teenager for details-and inserts into a slot on the front of the unit. While music will likely be the most common application, operators can also record cabin briefings and other information, such as narration. These can even be triggered by GPS position, or landing gear operation, for instance, which is a natural for tour operations. Since the unit can accommodate as many as 255 tracks, the options are numerous. Cost of the system, which weighs just 15 ounces, is $2,995.
