value of simulator training.

Published: Jan 23, 2007

We fly a 172 and are going on holidays without our airplane.I was wondering if simulator training was worthwhile .I have only read about in the bigger aircraft or more complex.I have a night VFR rating.

I have one hour on a flight school "simulator". It was the type where you use a PC monitor. To me, it was not realistic; maybe I need to spend more time on one. I also used FlightSim '04 for working on procedures for my instrument rating.

It really helped me learn instrument procedures, but it was a very poor substitute for the real thing.

I maintain information about and links to lots of information about the use of PC-based flight simulations on my Web site. Flight simulation is a tool; the value you derive from it depends more on the skill of the instructor and your own approach to the experience than on the type of device used.
