Does anyone believe the story concocted by these two flying examples of bad judgment? Who believes they were engaged in schedule manipulations on the personal laptops? I wonder if it is possible that they were distracted by some other factor, like a female flight attendant in the "cockpit" with them.;)

This is not the issue that I want to comment about, but it seems that I have finally stumbled on a way to make a statement. I do not fly anymore. When I quit I had 6500+ hours, was a CFII, Safety counseler, and a well respected fixed base operatior.
I said all that to say this. Jay Hopkins missed an important point in his slippery slope piece, Feb. issue. I taught my students to fill up their airplane at the end of the day. To do less invites condensation, which results in water in the fuel- which results in sputtering and/or engine failure on takeoff. Anybody who has ever had engine failure on takeoff knows that it is not a fun experience.
Been there, Done that. Not from water. I am an old man, retired from flying- but remember the basics.
They were sleeping. Without a doubt, and they lied to cover their butts. The rule of thumb is, I don't want to wake up and catch you sleeping.....
