All:
I had the opportuninty to meet a true aviation enthusiast this past week. This man had all kinds of planes in his hangar, the grandest a P-51 Mustang. Most of my conversation revolved around his Chief pilot. I was asking for help, to get some hours especially based on the new 1500 hour ATP requirement. Insurance restraints requires two qualified pilots in most of his aircraft. The biggest statement made by the chief pilot, was how few young pilots there are out there. I challenged him on why he thought that would be a impact. The discussion led down the path of how does a young pilt justify the cost of acquiring 1500 hours of flying time, to land a 26,000$ a year job. This impact will not just be a lack of or gap in quantity of pilots, but flight schools closing as well. I wish I had an impact statement or a fix for what will become an issue. There are those old heads that say do it like I did, or get a job. Many young pilots today are fully employed, and can't even get loans for flight training schools. As the economy continues a downward spiral, how can we fix this? You have all seen many articles on people asking for help. Pilot share a ride is a great start, also fellow pilots to share time with. The push I am making only cost aperson 1$, to make an impact. Log on to fundapilot.com, you can make a difference. If many would put skeptcism aside and realize for the cost of a cup of coffee, you could make a difference for one pilot. I beleive many people who really want to be a commerical flight instructor or pilot want and need help, but are afraid to ask. Well I am out here asking for help. Asking those of you who can make a difference to try and believe. Make one persons wish come true, to fly.
