Yawn! Yet another Richard Collins feature, full of dry performance numbers with few hints of the excitement of flying either machine. Collins has always approached flying as just another way to get from point A to point B -- a means to an end. Few pilots take up flying because it is an efficient mode of transportation. Where is the joy? The flying community will have to depend on the magic of Lane Wallace, or old articles by Gordon Baxter, or even the self-depreciating humor of Dr. Karl to attract the next generation of pilots. Perhaps it’s time for On Top to follow N40RC to the salvage yard.

I'm a bit surprised to read 2 pretty negative reviews of Richard Collins' work immediately as I began looking at forums on this board. I thoroughly enjoy Collins' work because his attitude is quite similar to mine. For me the fun of flying is going places; trying to make every effort better than the last, even the time spent planning and pondering how to make it happen. If Flying Mag is to be successful, it will have to continue to be written by pilots for pilots no matter what their little corner of the aviation universe is.
I am trying to find a copy of Richard Collins' A Tale of Two Cessnaa article. I remember reading it and can't find it on the FLYING website. I enjoyed Richard's analytical approach to comparing aircraft and since I am considering the purchase of a new piston single I would like to reread it to help me objectively decide on which aircraft might be best for me. I would appreciate any guidance on where I might find it. I, for one, miss Richard's column in FLYING.
