Your I Learned About Flying From That tittled "Lady Luck" is like reading something totally from my past. I became a flight instructor at the Ft. Rucker flight school in 1993 flying UH-60's and continued to teach until 2011. The story in "Lady Luck" absolutelly shocks me into remembering a situation when south of Andalusia, north of Florala I was flying with a student on his second day in the aircraft. Very bad judgement on my part placed us above and below the clouds having to request an ILS approach into Cairns AAF. Popping out of the clouds on final and seeing runway 06 in front of us pushed into me that never again would I let myself enter that situation. That occured a few years before I was told that if I wanted to I could go to the course where I would become an Instrument Examiner. I loved that course, and all it taught me, as much as I loved passing instrumentation to students and giving instruction pilots their annual instrument checkride. Knowledge in the air is as important as controls, engines, and wings.
