FAA Medical Boards

Published: Oct 03, 2012

Flying:

Years ago dwelling Washington, I used to ride in with Jack, an attorney who represented FAA at medical board hearings in Washington considering pilots with medical problems.  Should they continue to fly?

One thing he reported was that the doctors (usually with wives) who flew in quite often dragged things over to a second day for the wife to get more shopping or sightseeing in.  I don't know how this benefitted the quality of the medical decisions, but those doctors had a good thing going with hotel, meals, etc., paid for a second day at government expense.  R.
