Flightseeing resources

Published: Mar 01, 2008

My wife and I will be traveling extensively from June to September, starting in Alaska, heading to Portland, then Oshkosh, then down the Mississippi, through the Ozarks, to New Mexico, Lake Powell and back home to Fairbanks. She drives a van pulling a TrailManor, and I fly our C-182. We are looking for publications that point out fun and interesting landing spots, small airports that we should choose, local sites and festivals we might try to see, etc. etc. etc. Anyone know any guides for those of us who meander by small airplane?

If you're in the vicinity of North Carolina, you might consider First Flight Airport. It's within a fairly easy walk of Kill Devil Hill. There's a museum at the other end of the property that tells about the Wright brothers and their first flight.
