Limited time for the next few years

Published: Mar 03, 2011

I'm a new private pilot. I've never posted on a board like this and was looking for some advice from some senior guys. I did an accelerated course in about 30 days in December, and after about 45 hours, passed my checkride in January. My wife and I have been up a couple of times since then. Here's my situation and question. I'm an Army JAG officer and my wife makes fairly decent money. However, she's about to start med school and income is going to take a big hit while she's in school. I think I can afford about 2 hours of flight time a month. I know this is almost nothing, but the numbers are what they are. I'm wondering if you think it's better to do twice a month at about an hour or once a month for two. I figure that twice a month gets me on the controls more often, but you lose a lot of time in preflight, start, run up, etc. After she graduates, money shouldn't be an issue and I foresee us flying every weekend, but until then, I'm just trying to figure out the best way not to lose everything I've learned. Thanks.
