FLYING subscriptions

Published: Oct 06, 2008

For the second time in few months I did not received an issue of FLYING June (my previous post) and August. The answer is unfortunately the same : "Thank you for notifying us that you did not receive your issue. We apologize that this issue is permanently out of stock" for an issue not years or months ago but just the previous one... I noticed too that every issue is slimmer than the previous ones. I'll really miss this very good publication and I don't want to switch to web issues, a paper publication is available for years and months right around my office...

Sounds like the mailman enjoys your copy of Flying.

Dying? Hardly.

I've been subscribed since 1995 or so and I still have the issues from back then. The magazine used to be 124 pages. Now it's down to 96. Although the content is just as good, the magazine is lesser now than 10 years ago. In all fairness, this seems to be the way all print media is going since content has been getting shipped less by freeway, and more by internet superhighway.

If Flying magazine is losing the battle to increase subscriptions, it can probably be attributed to the horrible experiences people are having in trying to get the magazine delivered.

I stopped subscribing a couple of years ago due to the fact that I couldn't get a copy delivered to my home until after it had been on the newstands for most of the month. I recently subscribed again this last January because I was offered a multi-year subscription rate that was very generous. I should have known that things were no better than before.

My subscription check was cashed on January 28, 2011 and I have yet to receive a copy of the magazine (today's date is March 14), not even considering not getting the premium Flying baseball cap that was promised.

For some reason I expect better of what should be the flagship publication of general aviation.

Because we prepare our magazines for print so far in advance (for example, we're getting ready to ship the May issue to the printer), it can take up to eight weeks for your first copy of Flying to arrive. We apologize for this inconvenience.

If you haven't received your first copy yet, please call Flying Subscriber Services so we can check on this for you. One of our representatives can also give you a status on your premium, which can also take up to eight weeks for delivery.

I gave up with paper copies. They hardly ever arrived in the UK, and when they did they were very, very late. Reluctantly I went for the online version :-(
