Thermawing on Columbia aircraft

Published: Jul 04, 2011

Hi,

I am seeking information about the Thermawing anti-ice system (formerly E-vade) by Kellyaerospace, in order to improve my Columbia 400.

It is said that about 100 aircrafts have been fitted with this system, but there seems to be none here down in Europe. So before spending some ten thousands of euros, I would like some feedback about :
- the quality of the system
- the ability of the system to get rid of the ice (which conditions, which thickness of ice)
- the potential limitations...

the best for me would be to get in touch with an owner whom I would like to talk on the phone about the good or ba issues of such a system.

Thank you very much, best regards and safe flights
Michel

A friend had it installed on his 400 and it was a disaster. Ended up getting it removed and wings repaired. Never worked properly. He installed a TKS weeping wing system on it and he is very pleased with the performance of that system, even if it is not FIKI.

Hey Michel, ever heard of the internet/ Just a cursory Google search revealed the following URL: http://www.kellyaerospace.com/thermawing.html

On that website you can find contact info for Kelly Aerospace. Try phoning them at the numbers below or write to Kelly Aerospace the at the addresses below (if you still use snail mail). There is also at least one cideo on youtube for your viewing pleasure.

I think the original poster is well aware of the internet...he actually posted on it! Typcially when someone wants an unbiased opinion of a product and its capabilities, they don't contact the manufacturer. He even asks to get in touch with an owner in his email. Not sure your flippant remark is very helpful.

For good information, go to the Columbia owners website: http://www.cessnaadvancedaircraftclub.com/
