lol, these military planes are not stripped down transports. They are luxury Gulfstreams and Boeings. Members of Congress use them for travel all around the world, and some are permitted to use them to fly between Washington and their home states. Remember the big dustup when nancy Pelosi insisted she be allowed to fly on an Air Force 757 home to California and not a "regular" GV?
I have to say, I LOVE it. after they yelled at executives using private aircraft it is about time they be forced to fly private on our tax dollars.
This should have happened LONG ago, now if we can stop Air-force one from flying to Hawaii every other week...:)
I AM saddened by the fact they are also cutting ATC but I am sure this will balance out and maybe our government can learn to operate more efficiently....
The argument that high security individuals, such as the leader of our nation, should just climb aboard Southwest and sit with the rest of us is absurd.
That's like asking why a fire truck on an emergency gets to run red lights but you can't.
The leader of the free world needs to have a secure aircraft, whether you like him personally or not. I don't to explain the reason, because anyone with half a brain could deduce this.
Have a little respect for the Office, Kevin the wanna be pilot.
Good call! Let them pay for their flight just like the average Joe has to. They should be "entitled" to nothing. I for one am glad about the cuts and hope it goes a lot deeper.
"Leader of the free world"?
Which century are you living in, ChampPilot44 ?
In case you haven't heard, the Cold War ended over 20 years ago (thank you, Ronald Reagan!).
Couldn’t disagree more with kevinwannabepilot (kevinshouldntbepilot) and others of his ilk here. As aviators, we should be in favor of examples where aviation is cast in a good light, as safe, useful and necessary, even for protection of high profile individuals (corporate, government, cultural). We should not take glee in cases of aviation and airplanes being cast as wasteful, frivolous expressions of personal greed gone amok. When aviators start calling out other aviators over their “bad airplane” image it shows what a sorry state we’re in as a group. I’ll bet the Amtrack travelers who have to travel anywhere near Joe Biden will soon wish he had kept his plane and allowed them to travel in peace.
Yep starguy true hover any president or prime minister of any country is the exception to an excellent call by congress having to (forced to ha ha) lead by example. Leader of the free world, no its days gone by especially as China is buying up everything your "free world" is selling off.
Well, I fly what I can afford!
Does politicians fly what they can afford?
Of course not.
When did he say this? He was in Wilmington Delaware this past weekend. I know because my plane is in Wilmington. There was a TFR Sunday from 8 AM to 9 AM because he was there. So maybe this is another one of his gaffs. You never know with Joe Biden What's true.
