Avidyne Supporting ADS-B Standardization

Company will participate in Capstone Protocol.

Avidyne announced on Tuesday that it supports and will participate in the industry standardization agenda for ADS-B display commonality. Avidyne has made interfacing with other companies’ equipment a priority in the design of its own avionics, and the announcement at the Aircraft Electronics Association show in Las Vegas comes as no surprise.

The Capstone Data Interface Protocol stems from the Capstone development program in Alaska for ADS-B implementation. It is an RS-422/RS-232 data stream, complying with DO-282B and DO-317 standards for the display of ADS-B In traffic and weather broadcast services. Aspen Avionics and FreeFlight Systems have also announced their support for the Capstone Data Interface Protocol.

Avidyne president and CEO Dan Schwinn said, “We recognize the investment that the FAA has made in Capstone and the importance of having industry-standard interface protocols that allow for compatibility with third-party products, as well as for future Avidyne products.” Information on specific Avidyne products complying with the protocol will be forthcoming, said the company.
