APS Expands Loss of Control Curriculum to Airbus Aircraft

Still the leading cause of aviation fatalities, training focus moves to upset prevention.

With inflight loss of control still responsible for more than 40 percent of all aviation fatalities, Aviation Performance Solutions continued its efforts last week to reduce that number in air transport category aircraft with a newly created upset prevention and recovery training specifically for Airbus aircraft.

The APS Airbus A320/A330/A340 type-specific UPRT program complies with ICAO Document 10011 Manual on Aeroplane UPRT, Airbus Operational Training Transmissions (OTTs) and published guidance on conducting UPRT in Airbus fly-by-wire airplanes.

APS said more than 900 Airbus pilots helped test and refine the program over the past three years. APS has changed the delivery method for Airbus training from what it has traditionally offered by deploying its Airbus type-specific instructors to the customers’ preferred training location globally.

APS president BJ Ransbury said the company’s chief UPRT instructor for Airbus aircraft, Brad Bennetts, who also serves as UPRT program manager at South African Airways, will lead this new training segment.
