King Air Turns 50

Beech celebrates milestone.

Beechcraft celebrated the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the King Air Model 90 with cake at the company’s Sun ‘n Fun exhibit and a fly-over at the Beech factory in Wichita, Kansas.

The first flight of the King Air on January 20, 1964, started a remarkable production run for a remarkable airplane that remains in production to this day in several versions including the C90GTx, 250 and 350i models.

Since the first King Air rolled out of the factory in September 1964, more than 7,200 have been delivered, making it one of the most successful business and utility airplanes ever. Beechcraft is showing all three current-production King Airs at its Sun ‘n Fun exhibit this week.
